Interior Car Lighting

In contrast to my last project, I wanted to bring the same car model (from the "City Sample" project) inside and give it some dramatic studio lighting! One of my favorite parts of this was at the end, when I was looking for something to make this piece stand out and discovered the yellow glow light that was added to the background. It looked very dramatic and fun, brought the piece together, and helped me justify my previous decisions of having slightly purple rim and head lights!

First, I started out by placing a key light off to the back right. I liked how it fell off on the left side, as I wanted this piece to be more dramatic.

Next, I added a slight fill to illuminate the license plate. One challenge I ran into was eliminating the hotspot on the hood of the car that this light initially created.

After that, I added a rim light. I initially made this purple, because I love the color and wanted to play around with the hue for some added drama.

Just like in the last project, I also added a light to the inside of the car. Subconsciously, I pictured this being a "car unlocked" preview in a game and wanted the player to envision themself in the driver's seat!

Then, it was time for the headlights! I thought this IES profile created some fun foreground highlights and I also made these slightly purple to match the rim light.

At this point, I had fulfilled the typical lighting requirements but wanted something more to set this piece off. I ended up with this massive yellow "glow" light that motivated the purple from before while adding excitement to the piece!

Here's a quick loop to show how each light added to the scene!
